Ari Nurman

Ari is a public policy researcher, development practitioner, and civil society advocate with extensive experience in policy research, public-sector governance, and evidence-based advocacy. As one of the founding figures of Perkumpulan Inisiatif since its establishment in 2005, he has contributed significantly to advancing the organization’s work on poverty and inequality, social protection, public services, public budgeting, decentralization, and inclusive development. His work bridges rigorous research with practical policy engagement, translating evidence and field realities into strategic approaches for institutional and systemic change.

Ari holds a PhD from the University of Copenhagen, an M.Sc. in Technology and Policy Analysis from Delft University of Technology, and an academic background in Urban and Regional Planning from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). His interdisciplinary perspective combines policy analysis, development planning, institutional analysis, and governance to examine how public institutions and state resources can be shaped to advance social justice, strengthen citizens’ rights, and improve the quality and accessibility of essential public services.
