Juandi Rewang

Juandi is a civil society activist, democracy advocate, and member of the generation of student activists who played a role in Indonesia’s Reformasi movement of 1998. Emerging from the student movement at Universitas Padjadjaran, he was involved in civic initiatives advocating for democracy, civil liberties, and political reform during Indonesia’s transition toward a more democratic political order. These formative experiences shaped his critical perspective on power relations, citizens’ rights, democratic institutions, and the importance of meaningful public participation in building an open, inclusive, and accountable society.

Over the course of his activism, Juandi has expanded his engagement across a range of social and environmental issues, including water resources, environmental sustainability, community empowerment, and civil society organizing. He has contributed to networks and community-based initiatives that connect democratic values with environmental concerns and public interests. His approach emphasizes civic voice, social solidarity, community organizing, and the creation of meaningful spaces for citizens to participate in shaping public policies and development processes. His experience reflects a sustained commitment to strengthening community agency and advancing social change through collective action.

Beyond his work as an activist, Juandi Rewang has also expressed his social and political reflections through writing and cultural work, including his poetry collection SSMR (Semarak Serempak Mendobrak Rejim), which reflects on the student movement, Indonesia’s Reformasi, and the continuing challenges of democracy.
