Nana Sukarna, is a senior civil society practitioner with more than two decades of experience in strengthening accountable governance, community empowerment, and evidence-based public policy in Indonesia. He joined Perkumpulan Inisiatif in 2005 and currently serves as Head of the Department of Rural Development, Natural Resources and Energy. Prior to joining Inisiatif, he was involved with the Perhimpunan untuk Peningkatan Usaha Kecil (PUPUK) and served in the leadership of Sarasehan Warga Bandung (SAWARUNG), a civil society initiative promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in local governance. His professional journey reflects a longstanding commitment to strengthening the role of communities and civil society in shaping more inclusive and accountable development.

Throughout his career, Nana has worked across the intersection of rural development, natural resource governance, energy transition, public accountability, and policy advocacy. He brings extensive experience in community-based approaches, civil society capacity building, research, communication, monitoring and evaluation, and participatory governance. His work has supported citizens and civil society organizations to engage more effectively in public planning, budgeting, policy dialogue, and advocacy processes, while fostering collaboration among government institutions, communities, academia, media, and other stakeholders. He holds a Master’s degree in Communication from the Graduate School of Universitas Islam Bandung.

In recent years, Nana has increasingly focused on just energy transition and public budget advocacy, including strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to advocate for renewable-energy policies and more responsive public budgets. His approach combines grassroots knowledge, policy analysis, strategic communication, and multi-stakeholder engagement to address structural challenges in development and environmental governance. Through his work at Perkumpulan Inisiatif, Nana continues to contribute to building stronger communities, more capable civil society organizations, and public policies that advance social justice, environmental sustainability, and democratic accountability.
