Tatang Rustandar Wiraatmadja, M.T

Tatang Rustandar Wiraatmadja is a senior regional development practitioner, urban and regional planning specialist, and public governance expert with more than three decades of experience in government, strategic development planning, territorial development, and public sector reform. As one of the founding declarators of Perkumpulan INISIATIF on 19 June 2005, he belongs to the organization’s pioneering generation that helped establish its institutional foundations and advance a vision of development that is more participatory, responsive, and grounded in public interest. His extensive experience in local government has given him a distinctive practical understanding of how development policies are translated into planning, budgeting, infrastructure development, and public service delivery at the local level

Throughout his career, Tatang has held a number of strategic positions within the Government of Bandung Regency, including Head of Physical Development and Infrastructure at the Regional Development Planning Agency, Head of the Regional Settlement and Spatial Planning Agency, and Head of the Bandung Regency Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda). He has been recognized for advancing more participatory approaches to development planning, emphasizing the role of communities and local governments in identifying priorities and shaping development outcomes. His professional trajectory subsequently expanded to the national level through senior roles at the Government Goods and Services Procurement Policy Agency (LKPP), where he contributed to policy development, local government advocacy, professional and institutional development, and public procurement capacity building. He was also appointed to lead the Bandung Basin Metropolitan Area Management Agency, reflecting his capacity to address complex cross-jurisdictional challenges in metropolitan development and territorial governance

Tatang holds a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Institut Teknologi Bandung, completed in 1986, and a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Institut Teknologi Bandung, completed in 1998. He has also undertaken professional development programs in urban development, infrastructure planning, environmental indicators, and city development strategies in Indonesia and internationally. The combination of academic training, senior local government leadership, strategic development planning, and experience in public procurement and governance reform positions him as an important bridge between development strategy and policy implementation.
